Concert 1
Melodies from Madrid

A sumptuous selection of Spanish Baroque music from the Royal Alcazar of Madrid. Named after its scribe the manuscript El Cancionero de la Sablonara was a gift to a German Prince, so escaped the Palace fires. Boasting a wealth of famous writers it is a true and rare treasure of Spain’s Golden Age. On period instruments sensual melodies and infectious rhythms combine in a program of pure delight.

This music is from the early Renaissance, a time when the Kingdom of Naples was a gateway for cultural exchanges and a hub of artistic vibrancy.
